Habitat Day

Habit Day was a blast!  It was so fabulous and I could not have done it without all of the volunteers!  I was thrilled to have so many parents to help!!  The children loved visiting all of the habitats and I loved having all of the second grade students come through our Polar Habitat!  I have uploaded all the pictures and a huge thank you to Mrs. Raynor for taking pictures of all the habitats!

These are a few pictures of our Polar Habitat Room!  Thank you to the children that worked on our artwork for the room and for bringing stuffed animals to decorate our room!  We had the room set up in stations and the students rotated to all the different stations!

One of the stations was the ice and animal play station.  The students experienced how the animals move around on the cold ice all day and how difficult it can be!

The blubber station gave the students the opportunity to experience how blubber helps the animals stay warm.

The students also did an experiment where they saw how the feathers of penguins stay dry because they have a type of wax on their feathers!
Super cool!

The students carried a penguin egg across the icy tundra.  They experienced how difficult it would be to keep an egg protected for 6-8 weeks!

The Polar Bear treat station was yummy!  The students made their dessert for the day out of ice cream cups!  They also had their passports stamped at this station!

After the Polar Habit, they went to the Ocean Habitat.  They learned about sea turtles.

After the Ocean, they went to the Woodland Forest.  They learned about owl and dissected owl pellets!  Gross!  They loved it!

They went to the Pond Habitat next.  They got to see lots of pond life.  They had a speaker from the Science Center!

Next they went to the Desert Habitat!

The last stop was to the Rain Forest where they made rain sticks!
